Fall-ing into Winter

posted Nov 14, 2014, 6:27 PM by Brenda Williams
As you are reading this, we are less than 24 hours away from the first event of the winter season as the girls’ hockey team will be hosting Park Rapids at Breezy Point Arena on Thursday, November 13. JV starts at 5:15 and Varsity at 7:00. If you are like me, you are wondering where the time has gone and surprised how quickly the winter season is upon us. As you gear up for the winter season here are some things you may find helpful. AKA “frequently asked questions”.

How do I sign up my child for sports in grades 7-12?

There are three things that need to occur prior to your son/daughter gaining eligibility to practice:

1) Have a current athletic physical on file in the Activities Office. It must be dated 8/1/12 or later. Physicals are good for 3 years.
2) Complete the MSHSL Eligibility Bulletin. This form must be completed online and is found on the school website on the Activities page under “Register Online Now.” You only need to complete this form once per year.
3) Pay the activities fee online or in person in the District Office.

Where can I find the schedules?

If your son or daughter is out for a winter activity, you can access the game schedules on the school website at www.isd186.org . Once you are on the Activities page choose “Schedule” and then “PL Athletics Schedule.” From there you can see all the winter schedules. I would strongly encourage you to click on the “notify me” button in the upper right hand portion of the screen. Once you complete this process you will be sent reminders of the events that you are interested in, but more importantly you will receive an email any time a change is made to that schedule. This includes start time changes, site changes and/or updates, and even postponements and cancellations.

How do I know when and where practice is?

The winter coaches will be establishing an email or Remind 101 list of all participants and parents. This will be the manner in which coaches communicate relevant information regarding practices, bus departures or other pertinent information. If you are not receiving this info, please contact the respective coach and make sure they have your email and/or phone number.

When will team photos be taken?

The coaches of each team will establish a date for team photos. All teams will complete their photo shoots by Friday, December 6. Please contact the coach for specific dates.

Hopefully some of this information is helpful to you. If you have questions about a specific sport, please contact the coach of that sport directly. If you have questions about the activities department or are unable to reach a coach, please contact me in the Activities Office at 568-9213 or mhelmrichs@isd186.org.

I want to wish all participants, coaches, parents and fans the best of luck on the upcoming winter season. GO PATRIOTS! See you at the games.
