COVID-19 Updates

Information about the COVID-19 virus is evolving quickly.  Please refer to the following resources for the latest updates:

UPDATE 3/15/2020:

On March 15th, Governor Walz ordered all public schools in MN closed for a two week planning period through March 27, 2020.  
Schools are tentatively scheduled to reopen on March 30th in a format to be determined soon.

Information from prior to the 3/15/20 announcement

The district will follow the guidance and recommendations of the CDC :


In response to these recommendations, the following protocols will be in place until further notice:

  • For the safety of students, staff and community, only district personnel and contracted partners are permitted inside district schools.  Visitors and volunteers will not be admitted at this time.  
  • Beginning and end of day routines allowing families into the school to drop off or pick up students will remain the same, but other family visits during the school day will be limited to scheduled school business. Pick up and drop offs limited to office areas.
  • Public health officials have advised limiting large gatherings of people. All school sponsored public and family events will be cancelled until further notice.
  • District administration will make decisions about events on a case by case basis and communicate appropriately.
  • All field trips and school sponsored travel will be suspended until further notice.
  • All school MSHSL events and competitions are cancelled through April 6th per the MSHSL. Further information will be published as it becomes available.
  • All CE classes will be postponed until at least April 6th. Further information will be published when it becomes available.
  • Use of district facilities by external organizations and community groups will be limited to practices only.
  • Students will not be penalized for absences due to illness or fear of exposure.
  • Parents must notify the school office if their student is not in attendance as a precautionary action related to COVID-19.
  • Students who have been exposed to a diagnosed case of COVID-19 must communicate with school administration prior to returning to school.
  • Students who have symptoms consistent with COVID-19, or who are diagnosed with COVID-19, or who have a household member who is diagnosed with COVID-19 should not report to school and must notify the school office of the student’s condition. 
  • Staff members who have been exposed to a diagnosed case of COVID-19 must notify their supervisor prior to returning to work. 
  • Staff members who have symptoms consistent with COVID-19, or who are diagnosed with COVID-19, or who have a household member who is diagnosed with COVID-19 should not report to work and must notify their supervisor of their status.
  • Per the CDC, any students or staff returning from specified countries in Europe must self-isolate for 14 days, monitor their health, and practice social distancing.

**Pequot Lakes Schools staff and leadership are committed to the health and safety of all students, staff and families.  We will continue to work with our partners at MDE, MSHSL, MDH, Crow Wing County, and the Governor to make decisions and continuous care for our community.**
