2020-21 Updates

Which Model?
The state of MN uses a data-driven formula to decide the base instructional model that needs to be implemented in each district and school across our state.  Every Thursday, the MDH will publish an updated report of new COVID cases in each county in the previous 14-day period, and the higher the number of cases the more restrictive the educational model.  This is a clear incentive for our Patriot community to practice the CDC measures recommended to reduce the spread of the virus.

As of August 6th published data, all schools in Crow Wing County will be able to open with in-person learning at the beginning of the school year (currently 7.36 new cases per 10,000) however that could change as the data evolves through the month.  Districts are required to respond to changes in consultation with the MDH within one week - meaning parents and staff will have one week to make plans for a change in educational models.  Planning ahead for each scenario is the most important step to take now.  The data published closer to the end of the month will determine what we must implement on September 8th.

Here is a link to a Student 2020-21 Registration Survey to be completed by August 7th regarding the fall start of the school year.  Please read this important letter before filling out the survey.  This information will help the district plan for staffing, transportation, food service, and other critical services.  Families can expect communications from school principals with more detailed information about the year ahead the week of August 17th.

COVID-19 is not a cold nor the flu.  It is deadly for some that get it and yet ignorable for others.  We love and care for all Patriots - students, young staff, older staff, handicapped staff, family members and alumni.  We are committed to being a safe and friendly community regardless of age or health issue.  All school buildings will require wearing a mask indoors (as required by law), and we are implementing the most diligent cleaning protocols.  All are welcome in Pequot Lakes Schools...

In addition, MDH is encouraging all MN families to make a proactive plan for 2020-21 to navigate disruptions from COVID-19.  See this Make a Plan MN website for details and please - plan ahead.

As we begin school activities this fall EVERY student and staff member must check their health each morning before going to school.  STAY HOME if you have a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher or if you have any of the symptoms listed below, and notify the appropriate school office.  See the MDH COVID-19 page for more detailed information.
